
A brief summary between Assistance, Therapy & Pet Dogs
Assistance Dogs:



are trained to assist one person with a disability.
must perform at least three tasks specific to the needs of their handler.
must pass the Public Access Test (PAT) each year.

are permitted to go to public places in order to help their handler’s needs

Therapy Dogs:

are someone else’s pet who has been trained to provide emotional support too many to relieve stress, anxiety and promote feelings of joy.

must have undergone therapy dog training with their accredited handler or accredited by a certified training organisation

do not have any Public Access Rights like Assistance Dogs.

These dogs do not have any Public Access Rights like Assistance Dogs.

Pet Dogs:

give unconditional love.

provide joy to their families.

help the household be physically and mentally healthier.
